The legacy of Sam Houston lives on at the Samuel W. Houston Museum and Cultural Center.
During 1905-1906 Professor Samuel W. Houston established the Sam Houston Industrial and Training School in the Galilee community, west of Huntsville on the north side of Highway 30. The Malinda and Sanford Williams family donated the original land for the school. A small historical marker has been placed at the original site.
One cannot praise these educators enough for their dedication to the cause of educating the poorest of the poor, of a downtrodden people in very hard times. They have not been forgotten nor will they ever be as long as there are those who relish education.
A prayer to pray every day:
lord, I invite your searching gaze into my heart, examine me through and through; find out everything that may be hidden within me. Put me to the test and sift through all my anxious cares. See if there is a path of pain I’m walking on, and lead me back to your glorious, everlasting ways, the path that brings me back to you.
Would you agree with me that GOD knows more evil of us than we do ourselves, which is why we should not flatter ourselves, but always stand in awe of the judgment of GOD!!
Be sure to taste your words before you spit them out. Jesus said, “words and deeds pollute a person, not food.
Hopefully the community will get involved in the center so that this legacy will live on and generation after generation will know how important our history is.
